Every now and then, I make something that I love so much, I just want to keep for myself. The Grey Skies Slouchy is that hat! I’m never taking it off until Spring. It has a stretchy brim, just the right amount of slouch, and a subtle texture to highlight the shape.
It is made with Craftsy’s Cloudborn Merino Worsted Twist yarn which is heavenly.
I wasn’t aware that Craftsy had their own line of yarns until my friend, Salena, sent me a couple of hanks to try. One of the hanks was Cloudborn Superwash Merino Worsted Twist in the color Ivory. Cloudborn is such a perfect name for this yarn. With the first little yarn squeeze, it felt like a cloud (or at least how I imagine a cloud would feel like). I was in awe! This 100% Superwash Merino Wool was so soft and perfect that I completely fell in love with my hank. The label has the tagline “A little bliss in every stitch” and I completely agree.
Cloudborn Superwash Merino Worsted comes in a dreamy 3.5 oz hank of 220 yards. It works up so beautifully with a perfect stitch definition and a really smooth touch. The recommended hook is a 6.0mm J hook but, this was a fairly light worsted weight yarn and I used an H hook for my patterns. There are 28 gorgeous colors in the Superwash Merino Worsted Twist line. The neutrals are really soft, subtle shades of tan and gray. Then there are reds, purples, blues, and greens in really enticing, soft shades. Honestly, I could crochet with this yarn forever. Cloudborn Superwash Merino has a very smooth, gentle drape which means it hangs really softly when used for wearables.
When I researched this yarn a bit more, I found a quote from Sunne Meyer, the yarn production manager of Cloudborn Fibers. She says “We thought about heirlooms we want to pass down. We pictured all of those projects, and worked back to the perfect yarns for them.” I think they did a phenomenal job with this line. This yarn is made in Peru, where the best of the best yarns originate. The care instructions are machine wash cold gentle or hand wash and dry flat.
What should you make with a hank of this yarn? Really anything. It is perfect for hats, scarves, or warm garments. Finished projects made from this yarn WILL become heirlooms.
Looking for more Cloudborn patterns? I designed a slouch featured in the February 2017 issue of Happily Hooked magazine.
Cloudborn is exclusively available from craftsy.com for $13.00 but watch for occasional sales!
