Every Wednesday for the past 3 years, I have taught beginner crochet to local students. I love this class so much, I look forward to seeing my students every single week. I like to offer them easy patterns, but ones that they can ultimately use and be proud of! Dishcloths and swatches are great, but if we are learning to double crochet, why not make something they can use everyday!
One of the things that my students are starting to learn is how fun yarn can be. When I saw Bernat Pop! at my local WalMart, I knew this would be perfect for this project. The colors are vibrant, and the yarn is easy to work with. The stripes give you a sense of a more complicated purse, while doing it all with one ball!
I really struggled with a great looking handle that these students could work up easily. I ended up crocheting some round ones that I stuffed lightly, but they didn’t look great, and I thought they might be a bit fiddly for my students. I was almost going to give up when I thought of easy braided handles! I used Bernat Handicrafter Cotton in Warm Brown and braided the yarn for this great looking and easy handle. I can’t wait to bring this project to my students today and see all of their beautiful Crochet Class Bags come to life! They always love to see what I’m working on, and I love to see what they create. It’s really a wonderful group!
